Way Out Wineries (WOW) is a group of boutique Texas owned wineries, way out in Central Texas, away from major cities. In an effort to increase tourism to not only their businesses, but also their local communities, WOW is seeking a tourism marketing specialist. While the Way Out Wineries are located in Central Texas, the marketing director is based in Bryan/College Station, so this internship will be handled through remote work and travel is not necessary. Scheduling can be flexible around the intern’s school schedule. Coaching and feedback will be provided throughout and performance evaluation will be conducted at the completion of the internship. This is a non-paid internship but is eligible for internship credit through RPTS. 

Qualifications & Qualities the Ideal Candidate Possess

● Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Google Suite

● Excellent email, phone, and in-person communication skills

● Organized with excellent time management, prioritization, and communication skills

● Positive demeanor and attitude

● Creative talent and ability

● Experience with writing and editing a plus

● Familiarity with graphic design platforms (Canva) or software (Adobe)

● Strong attention to detail

● Self-starter with ability to complete work independently

Potential Responsibilities to Include:

● Social media content creation and posting

● Website updates

● Create printable marketing material for wineries to use in-house

● Establish partnerships with restaurants and hotels in neighboring communities to create a destination experience

● Discover additional local attractions to drive people to the area with cross-promotion

● Become knowledgeable about our destinations in an effort to help promote wineries and their local communities

● Write and submit press releases to local news and media outlets

● Collaborate on marketing plan and strategies

Benefits and Opportunities

While there is no pay for this internship, interns will have the ability to fully market and execute events, work with individual wineries, and create tourism opportunities. This internship has the ability to be tailored specifically to the intern’s interests and career aspirations.

Interns will have the ability to connect and work with members of the winery, tourism, marketing, media, or municipal fields throughout this internship.

While this position is unpaid, I enjoyed free tastings from the wineries and discounts on bottles of wine.
